Necker Island: Sir Richard Branson's Private Island

Discover this amazing hideaway.

Sir Richard Branson's 74 acre private island and home is unquestionably one of the most idyllic places and aspirational destinations in the Caribbean if not the world. Lovingly referred to as ‘my home – and favourite hideaway’ by Sir Richard Branson, this is one place that can’t be imitated, only appreciated.

Necker Island’s brand new Great House is due for completion in late 2013 and is inspired by the beautiful features and Balinese style of the original house but with some new and innovative twists. Like its predecessor, it boasts amazing panoramic views of the Caribbean, the Atlantic and neighbouring islands. Each of the eight guest rooms has a balcony, and all come with king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms. On the upper level you’ll find the expanded Master Suite, which covers a whopping 1,500 square feet, and has been designed for panoramic views from virtually every angle. Couples staying here will also benefit from a private two-person jacuzzi and stand-alone outdoor bath.

Richard Branson said of the new Great House, “Necker Island has been my home for more than 30 years and for me it is the most beautiful place in the world. The brand new Great House is the heart of the island and I am thrilled with the results. The opening in September signals a new dawn for Necker which I’m very excited about”.

Activities and amenities on Necker Island include private beaches, fresh water pools, power boating to neighboring islands, small-boat sailing, water-skiing, kite surfing, para-sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, tennis (lighted courts for night play), Jacuzzis, a full size snooker table and the latest in table games. There are also 70 welcoming members of staff including dedicated watersports instructors, a resident tennis professional, spa therapists and Michelin-trained chefs.

Accommodation on Necker Island is made up of nine bedrooms in the Great House and six individual Bali Houses dotted around the island. The total number of guests that can be accommodated on Necker Island is 30 plus six children in the bunkroom.

For those who want to enjoy the full Necker experience without having to hire the entire island, ‘Celebration Weeks’ in September and October provide the opportunity to book an individual room ‘hotel style’ in the Great House or in one of the six Balinese houses for seven nights.
