Merging cutting-edge technology with Victorian beauty, ReAcoustic’s handmade smartphone amps really are a sight to hear. South Carolina–based Ryan Boase reuses salvaged wood and gramophone horns (or parts from musical instruments like trombones and trumpets) to create a speaker system inspired by old-time record players and their vintage audio. With a hollow acoustic channel leading from the phone speaker to the horn, the docks require no power source (so don’t expect them to charge phones or iPods). “I am still amazed every time I finish one and play it for the first time,” Boase says. “It’s hard to believe that such a big sound can come out.”
The docks can be custom-finished in three stains; from $180; etsy.com/shop/reacoustic.
