The DEPARTURES Travel Editor talks the things—and habits—most important to her day-to-day. 

“As the travel editor, my daily little luxury is my morning routine, which I don’t deviate from whether I’m at home or on the road. I am a creature of habit, so I like having something that’s the same every day no matter where I am in the world. I start my day with water and lemon in my S’well bottle. I have three S’wells: A 25 oz. one sits on desk at work, and I carry either the 9 oz. or 17 oz. one with me when I’m traveling. Then I do some sort of a workout, which could be a run, walk, or even a quick 15-minute Nike Training App yoga session. I always have Nikes on hand (I have 15 pairs), and if it’s a crisp morning, usually I wear my favorite Patagonia R2 Fleece. For breakfast, my go-to is Parsley Health Rebuild Protein Shake with almond milk and almond butter. The incredible Dr. Robin Berzin, who founded Parsley Health, a hip and cool New York–based functional medicine practice, has taught me the importance of protein in the morning. I drink my shake while reading a hard copy of the Wall Street Journal, followed by The New York Times. I do a ten-minute Headspace meditation, and then I’m out the door.”
