Cassina's new art director is making waves in a male-dominated industry.

We’re calling it: Milan-based virtuoso Patricia Urquiola is now the most powerful woman in design. Just named art director of Cassina, Urquiola will bring her playful sensibility to the iconic Italian furniture label. “The term art director seems dated,” she says. “I don’t want to be a person working in a back room, but someone global with a team.” She redesigned Cassina’s Midtown showroom in November, and in 2017 Urquiola will lead the company through its 90th anniversary. “The term goal is a very masculine mentality to me,” she says. “I’m open to the process of evolution.”
