Cheese on 62nd may be named for the hard-to-find Italian varieties it imports daily, but co-owner Gennaro D’Alessio is more than just a dairy man—he’s been bringing Italian delicacies to New York for years (Mario Batali and the Maccioni family are loyal customers). This tiny Upper East Side store is his first retail venture, and it’s packed with favorites like Taralli round crackers, Sanniti orange-flavored olive oil, and Flambar figs marinated in Grappa di Malvasia. Italian friends were most excited by the presence of Ringos, a kind of Roman-style Oreo. 1341/2 E. 62nd St.; 212-980-5544.
