The Media Phenom

Born in Argentina and raised in Israel, New York–based Mika Rottenberg creates video installations that connect the personal and political in seemingly playful ways. In works such as Mary’s Cherries—which portrays women laborers in sweatshoplike compartments performing a series of actions to transform a fingernail into a maraschino cherry—she deals with issues of cultural identity and body perception while offering an absurdist vision of postcolonial economies.
