The Coolest Design Store in Denmark

Courtesy HAY

Housed in an elegant 19th-century building in central Copenhagen, the furniture store HAY House has drawn designers for more than a decade for its elegantly utilitarian Scandinavian look (like Marimekko for those in the know).

The company was established in 2002 to revive Denmark’s reputation for producing affordable, fuss-free furniture and creating tables, sofas and rugs with spare lines and bright shades. Now its reputation has gone global. Traveling shoppers may find the accessories—cardboard calendars, paper carpets, rainbow-colored hangers—easiest to pack.
