Babeth’s Feast, a just-debuted, high-end frozen-food grocery in New York, is the brainchild of French-born entrepreneur Elisabeth de Kergorlay, who was shocked that no such business yet existed in America. She modeled it after Picard, the gourmet frozen-food giant that is the secret weapon of last-minute French dinner parties. Babeth’s Feast–branded items are made from local ingredients, cooked in small batches and flash frozen. “I always pretend I did it myself,” says de Kergorlay. “Why not?”
