American-Made Footwear from Esquivel

A capsule collection from L.A. footwear designer George Esquivel.

The reigning orthodoxy of luxury leather goods is that it’s “Made in Italy” or bust. This summer, however, L.A.-based design darling George Esquivel proves that American-made can be just as refined with a capsule collection of footwear featuring sumptuous skins from one of the few remaining domestic tanneries, Pennsylvania-based Wickett & Craig. The richly burnished leathers and the hand-tooled floral embellishments on these oxfords and trompe l’oeil cap-toes update classic styles with the rustic patina that’s earned Esquivel his cult following. The shoes,
for both men and women, are made-to-order at Esquivel’s L.A. boutique with meticulous craftsmanship to rival Italy’s stronghold of fatto
a mano. From $950; esquivelshoes.com.
