Andaz made its first leap into Latin America last month with the opening of its new resort on the Peninsula Papagayo in northwest Costa Rica. Designed by local architect Ronald Zurcher, Andaz Peninsula Papagayo is set on 28 oceanfront acres and is carefully integrated into the tropical forest overlooking Culebra Bay and its surrounding verdant landscape.
The hotel has 153 guest rooms, including 21 luxury suites, and mixes clean, modern design with local touches like vibrant flower bouquets, textiles and carved artifacts. On the property, guests have access to the 11,000-square-foot spa, two cascading outdoor infinity pools, a pair of exclusive gold-sand beaches and water sports like snorkeling, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and jet skiing. Golf, tennis, white-water rafting and rock climbing are also available nearby, as are several national parks.
“It offers incredible views of and privileged access to the untouched natural beauty of Costa Rica," says Vincent de Croock, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing, "that guests wouldn’t get to experience otherwise.” Room rates start at $450; Peninsula Papagayo; 506/2690-1234; papagayo.andaz.hyatt.com.
