Christie’s Education New York—the auction house’s degree-granting educational arm—is making this year’s Art Basel all the more intriguing with an exclusive, behind-the-scenes trip to the storied art fair. After taking a group of Christie’s Education alumni to the Venice Biennale a few years ago, Véronique Chagnon-Burke, Christie’s Education director of studies, wanted to extend that type of experience to the public. What better choice than Art Basel? Leading participants through a six-day excursion (June 9–14) in Basel, Switzerland, Chagnon-Burke offers an unprecedented look at the fair itself, as well as area museums and galleries. “What makes the trip special is the access we have to the art professionals,” says Chagnon-Burke. “They will be there to share their expertise and experience.”
Guests, who will stay at the Storchen Zürich hotel, will enjoy a special itinerary that includes Vernissage opening events for both Art Basel and Liste 17, Basel’s companion art fair that spotlights galleries and artists younger than 40; a VIP cocktail party and tour of the new Löwenbräu Gallery and Museum in Zurich; and a viewing of Art and the City, Zurich’s first sculpture biennale. “Great art, a lot of top professionals, wonderful afternoon teas,” says Chagnon-Burke. “What more to ask for?” Registration continues through May 4; program starts at $8,500 and includes accommodations, transportation (excluding airfare) and most meals; 212-355-1501; email@example.com.
