Sublime Silver

A lushly illustrated tribute to Tiffany

Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. Magnificent Tiffany Silver, published this month by Abrams, is a lushly illustrated tribute to 150 years of the storied jeweler's trophy, commemorative, and exhibition pieces. "Interest in antique Tiffany silver has never been higher," says John Loring, the book's author and Tiffany's design director, noting that works by late-nineteenth-century silversmiths Edward C. Moore and Paulding Farnham regularly sell for six-figure sums. Among our favorites: the turquoise-studded silver bowl, inspired by Zuni baskets and presented at the 1900 Paris Exposition, and the Triton Cup, created for the New York Yacht Club in 1882 and, Loring says, "the most flamboyant trophy that Tiffany's ever produced."
