The best pool in Tuscany
Fonteverde, in San Casciano Dei Bagni, is a new spa in the Val D'Orcia, one of the most pristine and remote parts of Tuscany.
What's Great The $30 million spa is attached to the luxurious Hotel Terme de' Medici, a 1607 Medici villa about 95 miles from Rome or Florence. There are three pools with natural, 100-degree water; one, arranged in a zigzag, has 22 jets. And unlike at spa towns such as Montecatini, you will find no pensioners arriving by the busload.
Treatments To Get The best treatments, like the anti-cellulite leg massage ($70) and the aromatherapy facial ($70), use the local mud, known regionally for its purifying properties.
What We Loved Since the water is naturally warm, the pools are open year-round and at night, for soaking under the stars.
Word to the Wise Paolo's Ayurvedic massage ($80) tends toward the overzealous. Instead, try a mud treatment.
Rooms, $445-$870; spa treatments additional; day spa, $200 for three treatments. At 1 Località Terme; 39-05-78-57-241; www.fonteverdeterme.com.
