Spa Report

Bahamas on stilts

No, you're not in the Maldives. This thatched-roof overwater bungalow is the new spa at Kamalame Cay, a 96-acre private island resort in the Bahamas. In the five rooms therapists use sea sponges, seaweed, and sea salt in such treatments as the Bahamian Boreh, a Balinese-inspired spicy herbal body mask and massage. Rarely are more than two rooms occupied at once, which is the wonderful thing about this spa. On an island with only 19 suites and villas, it's important that you never have to wait, says owner Brian Hew. "Waiting changes the dynamic and can take the magic away." From $565 to $4,800; treatments, $55-$400; 242-368-6281; kamalame.com.
