Milan-born Antonella Pillitteri has always had an obsession with beautiful things—she has, in fact, devoted a lifetime to them. Over the last 20 years, Pillitteri worked for luxury companies like Trussardi, Versace, and Cartier. Four years ago, she went solo, founding a company called Ghisò in homage to Jean Jacques Ghisò, who, in the 1920s and '30s, was a favorite of French aristocrats for his handmade accessories. It's that legacy of quality and craftsmanship that Pillitteri brings these days to her own artisanal sets of dominos, poker, pick-up-sticks, bridge, backgammon, and tarot cards. "I started with games because I wanted to make something that would work as a gift for men. Something different and special," she says. "The options out there are so few."
Each piece is created entirely by hand, out of butter-soft parchment-colored leather and such exotic woods as Makassar ebony, Brazilian boxwood, and cocobolo. Pillitteri trusts her games are not only "lovely to look at but also wonderful to touch and feel." Deal us in.
