The Shanghai-born and Hong Kong–based Wong is revered in all the Holly­woods of the world for his dazzling, überstylized films. Named best director at Cannes in 1997 for Happy Together, he is the only Chi­nese national to preside over the festival’s jury, a role he filled in 2006. His first English-language work, My Blueberry Nights—starring, among others, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Norah Jones in her screen debut—premièred there in May last year and opens here in February.
