Delhi: Insider Access

Built by the Moghul emperor Shah Jahan and completed in 1656, Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid remains the country’s biggest mosque. The onion-domed red-sandstone building draws Muslim worshippers five times a day for the call to prayer and overflows with more than 55,000 during the holidays of Eid. With a bit of notice, Butterfield & Robinson can arrange tours of the mosque with Syed Tariq Bukhari, the younger brother of the imam, and possibly even a meeting with the man himself, a direct descendant of the mosque’s first leader. 866-551-9090; butterfield.com
