While the Venice Film Festival traditionally fires the opening shots of awards season, Toronto represents the full charge of cinema’s prestige brigade. Now entering its 40th year, the Toronto International Film Festival has swollen to truly epic, celluloid proportions. This year, just shy of 400 films are expected to draw nearly half a million visitors as Hollywood’s glitter army invades the great White North. But even for the most devoted cineaste, knowing which films to prioritize can be an impossible task. Fortunately, we have a few suggestions for those who find themselves on the shores of Lake Ontario this week.
