If seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the nth time has you blockbustered-out for the moment, worry not! Here comes Sundance to the rescue. This weekend Robert Redford’s venerable film festival lights the torch of indie cinema from its perch atop Park City once more. Heeding that beacon call, Hollywood’s young up-and-comers will dust off their warmest winter gear, gird themselves for the cold, and relocate to Utah’s snowy slopes in hopes of becoming the next big thing. Of course, Sundance has become such a cultural juggernaut that quite a few venerable luminaries will also brave the crowds to showcase their next low-budget masterpieces or experimental projects.

Still, there’s simply too much to going on to be able to catch it all—especially with the festival’s infamously tricky bus system and the die-hard cineastes willing to wait hours in the cold for a stand-by ticket. But how to choose between upper crust auteur Whit Stillman’s adaptation of a Jane Austen novella Love & Friendship and master of cinematic chaos Werner Herzog’s Internet age meditation Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World? Fortunately, crafting your own must see list is part of the fun. To help you get a head start, we’re sharing ours.
